Sharing is caring!
Saying, we’re sorry, is easy. But when it comes to changing our hearts – now, that is the hard part. We often slip back into the same sins because repentance is more than words or feelings; repentance is a posture of the heart. That’s why the condition of our heart determines whether change is real or temporary.
“These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”
Matthew 15:8–9 NKJV
The heart is the control centre for our choices, values, and affections. We may understand God’s law and feel remorse, but only a heart transformed by the Spirit and surrendered to Him can truly love righteousness and hate (and resist) sin.
If we find ourselves stuck in a cycle of regret and repeat, we must each ask ourselves: Has my heart bowed before God, or just my lips and head? True repentance isn’t about fixing outward behaviour; it’s about letting God renew and rewire us from the inside out. When that happens, everything changes – our habits, our relationships, our thoughts, our priorities – and guilt is replaced with freedom, joy, and the fruit of godly living.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I confess that I have often said “sorry” without truly surrendering and have been driven at times by guilt or fear of consequences. But You desire my heart, not just my behaviour. Forgive me for the ways my heart has remained far from You. Lord, give me a heart of flesh, one that loves what You love and turns quickly from what grieves You. I ask You now to search me, cleanse me, and give me a new heart. Plant in me a holy fear of You and a deep love for Your ways. Lead me in Your truth, and help me to walk in repentance that bears fruit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Shalom!
