Sharing is caring!
Some mornings start before we are ready for them. The alarm goes off, family members are already asking for things, and the phone is lighting up with messages from people who need our input or answer. It is easy to be pulled along from the first minute without ever deciding where we are going. Yet there is a stretch at the very start of each day when nothing has been settled yet, and what we do with it shapes everything that follows.
The Bible gives a lovely picture of God’s people coming “from the womb of the morning” as “the dew of His youth.” A womb is where new life comes from, so the picture speaks of something being brought forth. Dew is easy to understand when you think about how it appears. Nobody sees the grass making it. It settles on the grass and the grass simply wakes up wet and glistening. In the same way, we were not meant to generate the freshness, beauty, solutions and strength we need for the day. They are there to be received, and the first quiet moments of the morning give us an opportunity to hold ourselves open to God and let Him release what we need.
“Your people shall be volunteers In the day of Your power; In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth.”
Psalm 110:3 NKJV
Those moments are not primarily for handing God a list. He is personal, and the early hour is a chance to spend time with Him the way we would with someone we love or someone we are trying to get to know. We talk, we listen, and we simply enjoy being in His company. The more time we spend with Him, the better we know what He is like, and the more we begin to look and act like Him. His patience slowly becomes our patience, and His kindness starts to shape the way we speak and relate to the people around us. We cannot give away what we have not first received, and those who start the day with God do not only end up refreshed, but are better able to refresh others.
Action Steps:
Prayer:
Father, as this day begins, draw me close to You. I want to know You and not only ask things of You. Help me receive what You give, and let Your likeness show in me today. Amen.
Shalom!
