Sometimes God helps us notice what has quietly slipped onto His throne in our lives. In Ezekiel’s vision, there was a “seat of jealousy” – something sitting where only God should be (Ezekiel 8:3). Today, that can look like when our work, reputation, or even the good things, start to matter more than truly knowing Him. Whatever sits at the centre of our lives shapes everything around it.
The “seat of jealousy” isn’t always loud or obvious. It often hides behind our busyness, ambition, or the constant need to prove ourselves. We chase success, validation, or comfort but end up drained. If we find ourselves too busy for God, we are building something He cannot fill.
“…He brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the north gate of the inner court, where the seat of the image of jealousy was, which provokes to jealousy.”
Ezekiel 8:3 NKJV
But here’s the good news – when God reveals what’s taken His place, it’s not to shame us but to set us free. He wants His seat back, not for control, but for our healing. When He’s at the centre, peace returns, joy flows, and life finds balance again. When God is first, everything else finally fits.

Prayer
Lord, show me if anything has taken Your place in my life. I want You to be at the centre again. Fill my heart with Your peace and presence, and help me live from that place every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Shalom!
